SPARKILL, N.Y. - The Caldwell College women's tennis team won four singles matches and two doubles matches to defeat St. Thomas Aquinas 6-3 in a non-conference dual Sunday afternoon. The victory gives the Cougars a 2-1 record on the season.
Junior Joellen Keaney (Oak Bluffs, MA/Marthas Vineyard Reg.), pictured, overcame a 5-1 deficit in the first set to beat Ashley Bass, 7-5, 6-2 at No. 2 singles. Junior Danielle O'Connell (South Amboy, NJ/St. John Vianney) earned a tough three-set victory at No. 5 singles over Manuela Guimares, 6-1, 4-6, 6-1. Seniors Oksana Manoukian (Old Tappan, NJ/Northern Valley Reg.) and Erin O'Neill (River Edge, NJ/Barnstable Academy) picked up straight-set wins at first and third singles, respectively. Manoukian's victory was her 14th straight singles win in a dual match.
Manoukian and O'Neill were victorious at No. 1 doubles, and Keaney and O'Connell won their match at No. 2 doubles.
Next up for the Cougars is a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference dual at the University of Sciences on Saturday, Sept. 17, beginning at 12:00 p.m.
