WILMINGTON, Del. - The Caldwell College women's tennis earned its first victory of the season with a 9-0 win over Goldey-Beacom College in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference dual Saturday afternoon. The Cougars are now 1-1 on the season. Today's match was the first competition for the Lightning, who opened its inaugural season against the Cougars.
Senior Oksana Manoukian (Old Tappan, NJ/Northern Valley Reg.) won her 13th consecutive match at No. 1 singles, as all six Cougars' singles players won in straight sets. Manoukian and senior Erin O'Neill (River Edge/Barnstable Academy), pictured, were victorious at No. 1 doubles over Stephanie Bain and Becky Jones, 8-2. Caldwell's No. 2 doubles team of juniors Joellen Keaney (Oak Bluffs, MA/Marthas Vineyard Reg.) and Danielle O'Connell (South Amboy, NJ/St. John Vianney) won by the score of 8-0, as did the No. 3 doubles tandem of sophomores Corrie McIntyre (Highland Park, NJ/Highland Park Reg.) and Patty Messick (Penns Grove, NJ/Penns Grove).
The Cougars play at St. Thomas Aquinas College on Sunday, Sept. 11, beginning at 1:00 p.m.
