COUGARS ADVANCE TO CACC FINALS WITH OVERTIME WIN OVER FELICIAN

RUTHERFORD, N.J. - Junior midfielder Jorge Ibarcena (Lima, Peru), right, scored the game-winning goal two minutes into the second overtime period to give the Caldwell College men's soccer team a 2-1 victory over Felician College in the semifinals of the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Tournament Thursday night at Tryon Field. The second-seeded Cougars (12-4-1) will face top-seeded Dominican College for the conference championship on Saturday, Nov. 5 at 2:00 p.m. at Tryon Field. The Golden Falcons finish their season 6-10-2.

The Cougars controlled play in the first half, out-shooting Felician 8-4 while dominating possession. Junior forward Uke Dauti (West Orange, NJ/West Orange) put Caldwell on the scoreboard in the 30th minute, when a pass from sophomore midfielder Nicholas Harriott (St. Catherine, Jamaica/Campion), left, sent Dauti in alone on Felician Goalkeeper Anthony Quarino. Dauti, who was named to the all-CACC first team earlier this week, slipped the ball under Quarino for his 16th goal of the season.

The score remained 1-0 until the 66th minute, when a Cougar defender turned the ball over in his own penalty area, allowing Mike Furino to score an unassisted goal and tie the game at 1-1. Neither team was able to find the net before the end of regulation and through the first 10-minute overtime period. Then in the 102nd minute of play, Dauti dribbled down the right side, beat his defender and slid a pass to Ibarcena at the near post. The first team all-CACC midfielder blasted a shot into the upper right corner of the goal to send the Cougars into the finals of the conference tournament for the second time in three years. Caldwell lost to Goldey-Beacom in the 2003 championship game.

Senior goalkeeper Mike Turdo (West Paterson, NJ/Passaic Valley) made three saves in goal for the Cougars, while Quarino recorded four saves.

Dominican, ranked seventh in the latest NSCAA Division II national rankings, defeated fourth-seeded Nyack 5-0 in the other semifinal. The Cougars will attempt to win their first CACC title in men's soccer while avenging four straight losses to the Chargers. Click here for directions to Tryon Field.
