CALDWELL, WILMINGTON TIE 1-1 ON LATE WILDCAT GOAL

NEW CASTLE, Del. - A converted penalty kick in the final minute of regulation allowed Wilmington College to pull even and eventually tie Caldwell College 1-1 in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference men's soccer match Saturday afternoon at the Kirkwood Soccer Complex. With the tie, the Cougars are now 3-2-1 overall and 0-1-1 in the CACC. Wilmington remained unbeaten in the conference with a 3-0-1 mark, and are 3-2-4 overall.

After a scoreless first half, sophomore Bard Skjelstad (Bodo, Norway) scored his fourth goal in two games off a pass from senior Nolan Osario (Wayne, NJ/Wayne Hills) early in the second half. Neither team was able to score until Wilmington was awarded a penalty kick with under a minute to go. Joe Galasso beat Cougars goalkeeper Mike Turdo (West Paterson, NJ/Passaic Valley) from the penalty spot, forcing overtime. The teams remained tied 1-1 after two ten-minute overtime periods.

The Cougars outshot Wilmington 17-11 and also held a 10-3 advantage in corner kicks. Turdo made two saves for the Cougars, while Josh Ruggerio made five saves and Dan Mangat made four saves for the Wildcats.
