BLOOMFIELD, N.J. - Senior Roman Veselinov's (Varna, Bulgaria) first-half goal was all Caldwell College would need as the Cougars defeated Bloomfield College, 3-0 in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference men's soccer match Thursday afternoon. The victory gave the Cougars (11-5-2 overall) a final CACC record of 3-3-2, good for fifth place and a spot in the conference tournament, which starts Tuesday, Nov. 2. The Deacons dropped to 0-11-1 overall, 0-6-1 in the CACC.
Veselinov (pictured) notched his third goal of the season when he followed up his own shot and put the rebound past goalkeeper Dennis Amoateng in the 22nd minute. All three of Veselinov's goals this season have been game-winning goals. Freshman Nicholas Harriott (St. Catherine, Jamaica/Champion) and junior Kevin Libbos (Ontario, Canada/Glengarry) added late insurance goals in the 87th and 89th minutes, respectively, as Caldwell won its fourth straight game.
Junior goalkeeper Mike Turdo (West Paterson, NJ/Passaic Valley) made two saves for his sixth shutout of the year. Amoateng recorded eight saves for Bloomfield, as the Cougars out-shot the Deacons 12-5.
Caldwell completes its regular season schedule with a non-conference game at West Chester University on Saturday, Oct. 30. The Cougars will play a road game in the first round of the CACC Tournament on Tuesday, Nov. 2, against a to-be-determined opponent.
