CALDWELL, N.J. - Dominican College scored a pair of second half goals to come back to defeat Caldwell College 2-1 in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference men's soccer match Wednesday afternoon at Caldwell Field. The loss dropped the Cougars to 1-3-2 in CACC play and 6-4-2 overall, while the Chargers remained unbeaten in the conference with a 5-0 record, 8-5-1 overall.

The Cougars got on the scoreboard in the 29th minute when sophomore Bard Skjelstad (Bodo, Norway) took a pass from sophomore Jorge Ibarcena (Lima, Peru) and blasted a shot from 20 yards out that beat Dominican goalkeeper Kieran McGovern. The goal was Skjelstad's team-leading fifth of the season, while Ibarcena picked up his sixth assist. Caldwell enjoyed a 6-1 advantage in shots during the first half.

But Dominican quickly put the first half behind them as Tom Rolston scored just 57 seconds after halftime. Brent Gaylord played a short corner kick to Cristian Quinga, who crossed the ball into Rolston in the penalty area.

The winning goal for the Chargers came off a cross by Quinga from the right flank that deflected off a Caldwell defender and into the net for an own goal.

The game was marred by physical play that resulted in 12 yellow cards. Ibarcena was ejected after receiving his second yellow card in the 55th minute, while Luigui Marin picked up a pair of yellow cards less than three minutes apart to earn an early exit in the 63rd minute.

For the game, the Cougars out-shot the Chargers 17-6. Junior Mike Turdo (West Paterson, NJ/Passaic Valley) made two saves for Caldwell, while McGovern made seven saves for Dominican, including a diving stop of a Skjelstad free kick from 20 yards out in the 43rd minute.

The Caldwell College men's soccer team returns to action on Saturday, Oct. 16, when the Cougars host Kutztown University in a non-conference match. Game time is set for 1:00 p.m.
