Dean Johnson

Dean Johnson returns for his 33rd year at Caldwell University and 29th year as the Associate Athletic Director. Johnson arrived at Caldwell in 1990 serving as Director of Residential Life for two years, Associate Director of Admissions and acting Vice President for Admission for two years, while serving as the assistant coach for the men’s basketball program. Johnson joined the Caldwell Athletics Department as a full time administrator in 1994 as the Associate Athletic Director and started his tenure as the head softball coach for the 1995 season.
 
Among his administrative responsibilities, Johnson oversees in the internal operations for the department, compiling the annual NCAA reports, serves as the site supervisor and oversees several sports.
 
In addition to his role as the department’s associate athletic director, Johnson also serves as the head coach for the softball team and the head coach for the men’s basketball program.
 
For his contributions to the University and its athletic department, Johnson received the prestigious Caldwell Cup from former president Sister Patrice Werner in May of 2008. He also is a member of the NCAA DII Head Coach Connection Committee and is the chair of the NCAA Division II National Softball Committee. He has previously served as a member of the NFCA Head Coaches Committee, the NFCA Top-25 committee, the NCAA Division II East Regional Advisory Committee and the CACC Championships Committee. 
 
A native of Belgrade Lakes, Maine, Johnson was a standout point guard at the University of New England in Biddeford, Maine. He also played major modified fast-pitch softball, and in 1990 his team placed third nationally. Johnson graduated from the University of New England in 1986 with a Bachelor of Arts in History and Secondary Education. He earned a Master’s degree from Caldwell University in 1997. He was inducted into the UNE Athletics Hall of Fame in 2022.Â
