Patrick Sullivan begins his eighth season with the Cougars and returns for a second season as the assistant coach for the cross country and track and field programs in 2017-18.

As the head coach for the six seasons, he guided the women’s track and field teams to a second place finish for three straight seasons at Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Championships. The women’s cross country teams improved their team finishes at the CACC Championships and finished in seventh place in 2015. In their first-ever on campus meet, the Cougars finished third at the Cougar Chase Invitational.

He oversaw the addition of the men’s cross country and track and field teams in 2014-15 and guided the cross country teams to back-to-back 12th place finishes at the CACC Championships. He led the men’s team to a fifth place finish at the Cougar Chase Invitational, the first-ever cross country meet on campus. In their first season on the track in spring 2015, the Cougars finished in second place at the CACC Championships.

Sullivan came to Caldwell after a successful running career at Ramapo College, where he helped his team break school records in the 4x800-meter relay and the distance medley relay. A middle distance runner for the Roadrunners, Sullivan placed sixth in the 800 meters at the 2008 NJAC Track and Field Championships and was a member of the distance medley relay team that took fourth in the NJAC in 2010.

In the spring of 2012, Sullivan started the women’s track and field program at Caldwell. Along with beginning the men’s cross country program this fall, he will coach the Cougars’ first men’s track and field team this spring. Sullivan began a full-time position in Caldwell Athletics this summer, working with sports information and recreation sports.

A native of West Milford, N.J., Sullivan was a standout runner at West Milford High School, where he twice earned all-conference honors in cross country. He also set the school record for the 1,500-meter run and won the conference in the 800 on the track.

Sullivan graduated from Ramapo in 2010 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Law and Society. He is the director of marketing and advertising at Delta/Marcliff Insurance Agency in Little Falls, N.J., and currently resides in Hamburg, N.J., with his wife Shannon and son Andrew.
