Asgeir Ofstad enters his seventh season as the head men’s soccer coach at Caldwell University. He led the Cougars to the CACC Tournament in the 2017 season for the second year in a row, where they fell short in quarterfinals to Jefferson. They finished the season 4-6-2 in conference play. Ofstad enters the season with a career record of 46-55-10.
A standout defender for the Cougars in 2005 and 2006, Ofstad returned to Caldwell after coaching youth soccer for five years.
Ofstad guided the Cougars back to the CACC Tournament in 2014, following a 13-6 overall record and 8-4 mark in conference play. Caldwell advanced to the semifinals of the CACC Tournament where they fell to top seed and eventual champ Philadelphia.
In his five seasons, he has coached eight CACC All-Conference selections, one all-region player, one ECAC Rookie of the Year in 2013 and two ECAC All-Stars. In addition, he has had a CACC Top XV Academic Award recipient and a CoSIDA Capital One Academic All-District as well as garnering NSCAA Team Academic Award honors in 2014-15.
In his first year as coach of the Cougars, Ofstad guided his team to a 6-10-2 record overall and a 5-6 mark in conference play that qualified Caldwell for the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Tournament. In 2013, Caldwell was 7-10-1 but missed the CACC Tournament with a 4-7-1 record in league play.
Ofstad was a part of the New York Red Bulls as a youth coach for two years. He also coached two teams with West Orange United, and has coached teams for clubs in Florham Park, Roxbury and Holmdel since 2008. Prior to moving to New Jersey, Ofstad was the coaching coordinator for Kolstad FK in Kolstad, Norway. He earned a national coaching diploma in Norway.
While at Caldwell, Ofstad was a two-time all-Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference defender who led the Cougars to back-to-back, 12-win seasons. The CACC Newcomer of the Year in 2005, Ofstad also was an all-New England Region selection in both 2005 and 2006. He was a key part of a Cougar defense that limited opponents to 17 goals in 19 games in 2006. Also a good student, Ofstad received Academic All-District and CACC All-Academic honors while at Caldwell.
A native of Trondheim, Norway, Ofstad graduated from the University of Trondheim with a degree in education in 2007. He completed his Master’s degree in Educational Leadership at Caldwell University this past spring, and will start the Doctoral program in Educational Leadership this fall. Ofstad currently works as a math teacher for fifth through eighth graders at PRIDE Academy Charter School in East Orange.
