Ted Evans Named Caldwell University Head Flag Football Coach

Woodcliff Lake Native, Paramus HS Head Coach, Former Director of U.S. Army All-American Flag Bowl Football Game to Helm Inaugural Season of Cougars Program

CALDWELL, N.J. -- Ted Evans, a longtime educator and coach at Paramus High School, has been named Head Coach of Caldwell University Flag Football, it was announced by Mark A. Corino, Assistant Vice President and Director of Athletics. Evans, who has coached the sport as well as football and basketball, will lead the Cougar women in their inaugural season of competition in Spring 2027.

In addition to teaching sports marketing and financial literacy at Paramus High, Evans built the school's first flag football team in 2023. In his first year as head coach he was named Flag High School Football Coach of the Week Game Changer in association with the New York Jets. In his four years at Paramus Evans accumulated a 20-15-2 record with two SFC playoff appearances and in 2026 the Spartans finished with a 6-5 record, including wins in four of their last six contests. Evans produced multiple All-Super Football conference players an All-State and an All-American player. He also has produced a number of players who continued flag careers on the college club level.

Evans also served as the director of the prestigious U.S. Army All-America Flag Bowl Football Game,(now known as Military Appreciation Bowl) held at The Star in Frisco, Texas, showcasing the nation's top flag football players.

"Coach Evans brings exceptional experience in this relatively new sport that will help us immensely in hitting the ground running this year," said Corino. "He has built a successful program from scratch and his work with the U.S. Army Bowl ties him in well to the flag football scene as we open play in the CACC and ECAC."

Evans replaces T.J. Kroncke, who had been named to the Caldwell head flag football post earlier this year but was later named sprint football head coach and will instead assume those duties at the University.

A native of Woodcliff Lake, N.J., and graduate of St. Joseph Regional High School in Montvale, N.J., the 1990 Hofstra University graduate was a three year letterwinner for the (then) Flying Dutchmen before beginning his teaching and coaching career, which included a stop at his alma mater where he was a part of State Championships in 2008 & 2009 and coached an undefeated freshman program in 2010 before being named the head football coach at Dumont High School in 2012. He returned to Paramus starting the PHS flag program.

"I look forward to the challenge of building a brand new college program and working with collegiate student-athletes," said Evans. "I'm excited that Caldwell University has seen the value of the sport so early in its development on the NCAA level and that Mr. Corino and the staff here have entrusted me to put Caldwell on the flag football map."

Evans resides in Woodcliff Lake, N.J., with his wife Terri. Evans has 3 older children Matt, Mackenzie and Megan. All three attended Rutgers University where both of his daughters were collegiate rowers and his son was a club lacrosse player.

At present, Caldwell's NCAA Division II sports competing in the CACC include men's and women's soccer, men's and women's basketball, men's and women's lacrosse, men's and women's cross country, men's and women's track & field, women's volleyball, women's bowling, softball and baseball. Sprint Football competes in the Collegiate Sprint Football League and Acrobatics & Tumbling competes in the National Collegiate Acrobatics & Tumbling Association.
