Kurtz, Levine Lace four Hits Each, Rigas Goes Seven Strong in Opener, Baseball Splits Pair With Chestnut Hill

Levine Bags Three Doubles, Kurtz Drives in Four

CALDWELL, N.J. -- Senior left fielder Jimmy Kurtz (Buena, N.J.) and freshman third baseman Justin Levine (Staten Island, N.Y.) had four hits each and senior righthander John Rigas (Lincoln Park, N.J.) continued his impressive late season run with seven strong innings as Caldwell University baseball won the opener of a CACC doubleheader with Chestnut Hill, 12-2. The Griffins took the nightcap, 10-0.

Caldwell took a 3-0 lead in game one into the fourth inning, when the hosts extended to 7-0 on Levine's two-run double to deep center field sandwiched between a sacrifice fly by senior shortstop Christian Rinick (Marlton, N.J.) and senior 1B Chris Hopf (Middlesex, N.J.).

Kurtz added RBI hits in the seventh and eighth, the second of those putting CU up, 12-2, invoking the 10-run rule and ending the game.

Rigas was masterful, scattering seven hits and fanning eight against a prolific Chestnut Hill offense that came in second in the league in OPS. It's the third start in his last four in which he went at least seven innings.

Junior DH Ethan Arter (Moorestown, N.J.) had three hits in the victory.

Chestnut Hill (20-19, 17-12 CACC) used a six-run fourth to cruise to 10-0 triumph in game two.

Caldwell (14-24, 11-18) next hosts Lincoln on Saturday at noon. Between games, Caldwell baseball will honor its 13 graduating seniors.
