CALDWELL, N.J. -- Freshman 3B
Justin Levine (Staten Island, N.Y) had three hits and freshman RF
Izaiah Robinson (Franklin Twp., N.J.) drove in three runs as Caldwell baseball fell, 7-5, in the rubber game of a three-game CACC series with Felician on a chilly Sunday afternoon at Kiwanis Oval.
After the Golden Falcons (19-23, 15-12 CACC) took a 3-0 second-inning lead, the Cougars answered on a two-out, two-run single to right center by Robinson, who fouled off three two-strike pitches before lofting the base hit to pull CU within one.
The Golden Falcons added a run in the fourth, but Robinson again answered with a sacrifice fly to right that made it 4-3.
Felician pushed its lead to 6-3 before an RBI groundout by senior SS
Christian Rinick (Marlton, N.J.) in the fifth and a bases-loaded sac fly by senior 2B
Stephen Young Jr. (Middlesex, N.J.) made it 6-5. Levine then sent a ball deep to right center field that the Felician CF pulled in at the wall to end the threat.
Caldwell (12-23, 10-17), trailing 7-5 entering the bottom of the ninth, had three chances with the tying run at the plate following Levine's leadoff double, but three straight outs ended the game.
Sophomore
Johnny Amato (Roselle Park, N.J.) allowed one earned run, fanning four in four innings of work. Sophomore
Jack Edner (Bethel Park, Pa.) finished up with two hitless frames to give CU a chance to rally.
The Cougars step out of CACC play for a home matchup with Kutztown on Tuesday, then host Chestnut Hill in a doubleheader on Wednesday at Kiwanis Oval.
