CALDWELL, N.J. -- Freshman 1B
Emerson Jarrard (Carlsbad, Calif.) slammed a go-ahead home run in the third inning of game two and totalled six RBI on the day as Caldwell University softball remained unbeaten in CACC play with a doubleheader sweep of Goldey-Beacom, 10-5 and 3-1, at Caldwell Athletic Field on a sunny Saturday afternoon.
Caldwell (18-12 overall, 10-0 CACC) won its eighth straight and 18th of its last 19.
In the opener, the Cougars erased a 3-2 deficit with three in the fifth laced a two-run triple to put CU ahead, then sophomore catcher
Emily Kurth (Toms River, N.Y.).
Caldwell then put it away the next inning with a five-spot, highlighted by a two-run single by sophomore 3B
Lindsay Oller (So. Plainfield, N.J.) and a two-run double by Jarrard.
Junior righty
Katie O'Connor (Charlottesville, Va.) went the distance, permitting two earned runs and fanning seven for her eighth win in the last nine decisions.
In the nightcap, the Cougars again faced an early deficit, when Goldey-Beacom (15-15, 5-7) took a 2-1 lead after two. But Jarrard's two-run home run put CU ahead, 3-2, in the third.Â
Sophomore RHP
Haleigh Fisher (Smyrna, N.Y.) made it stand up, allowing nine hits but no walks, fanning five to earn her seventh victory of the season.
