CALDWELL, N.J. -- Sophomore catcher
Emily Kurth (Toms River, N.J.) pulled a single through the left side with the bases loaded in the bottom of the seventh, lifting Caldwell University to a 6-5 walk-off triumph over St. Thomas Aquinas in the second game of their non-league softball doubleheader at Caldwell Athletic Field on Sunday afternoon.
STAC won the opener, 8-0, in six innings.
Kurth's heroics capped a rally from a 5-2 CU deficit. The Cougars got back even with two runs in the fourth on three STAC errors and another in the fifth on a sacrifice fly by sophomore 2B
Maddie Matkosky (Horseheads, N.Y.), which followed a triple by junior CF
Kenzie Nazionale (Ontario, Calif.), who had three hits and three runs scored in the contest, including the game-winner.
Sophomore righthander
Haleigh Fisher (Smyrna, N.Y.) went the distance for CU, permitting two earned runs on eight hits and no walks.
Kurth also homered in the first inning, her second of the season. Her 16 RBI lead the team and rank tied for sixth in the CACC.
The Cougars (10-12), who have won nine of their last 1o, next host Post University on Tuesday (rescheduled from Wednesday) at 2:30 p.m. in a CACC matchup at Caldwell Athletic Field.
