Coogan's 15 Paces Women's Basketball as Win Streak Snapped at Nine by Post

Eagles hold off Cougars for second win over CU this season

CALDWELL, N.J. -- Senior forward Lucy Coogan (Kilkenny, Ireland) posted a game-high 15 points and grabbed nine rebounds, and sophomore guard Sofia Maldonado (Jackson Heights, N.Y.) grabbed a career-high 10 rebounds, but Post secured a 53-48 triumph over Caldwell women's basketball in a CACC matchup at the Newman Center on Tuesday evening.

Post jumped ahead early, scoring the first 13 points of the game before a Lewis free throw at 4:48 gave Caldwell its first point of the game.

Post (11-12, 8-9 CACC) led, 30-18, at halftime, extending to a 15-point edge at 37-22 before a three pointer and 19-foot jumper by Coogan got CU to within 10.

In the fourth, two free throws by Coogan and a layup by junior guard Jah'Nel Lewis (Jersey City, N.J.) got CU to its closest margin since the early seconds at 40-37. Post went back up by eight, but the Cougars again rallied, getting back within four on a three pointer by junior guard Neysa Aguilar (Middlesex, N.J.) with 2:34 left, at 49-45.

But Post held the Cougars (17-7, 12-6 CACC) scoreless until the final two seconds and made four of four free throws down the stretch to secure the win.

Lewis finished with 12 points and Aguilar had 10 for CU, which shot just 26% from the floor and made just three of 22 three pointers.

Before the game, the Cougars honored senior guard Gules Esposito (Staten Island, N.Y.), who had her second career start.

Caldwell, which saw its nine-game win streak broken, visits Thomas Jefferson University on Saturday in its next action.
