CALDWELL, N.J. -- Freshman forward
Leopold Neumeier (Berlin) scored on penalty kicks in the 30th and 59th minutes as Caldwell University men's soccer earned a 2-2 draw with Thomas Jefferson University in a CACC matchup at Caldwell Athletic Field on Saturday afternoon.
Each time, Neumeier's markers put CU (3-5-1, 1-2-1 CACC) ahead by a goal. But both times, TJU (2-6-1, 1-1-1) countered with the equalizer, and the evenly matched contest (each team had 12 shots, six on goal) ended in a stalemate.
Neumeier was fouled in the box on a mini-breakaway to set up the first penalty attempt. He drove it into the bottom left corner for the 1-0 lead.
In the second half, sophomore midfielder
Wiland Wuestrich (Leipzig, Germany) send a through ball from midfield to Neumeier, who was chased and tripped up from behind to earn the second penalty. He then drilled the ensuing shot into the upper left corner.
Neumeier put a team-best four shots up, all on goal. Sophomore defender
Bilel Mahamadou (Lyon, France), sophomore midfielder
Nico Bustios (Belleville, N.J.) and freshman midfielder
Isaac Perez (Campbell, Calif.) each had two shots.
Freshman keeper
Diogo Da Silva (Newark, N.J.) made four saves for the Cougars.
Caldwell hits the road for two key CACC contests this week: at Dominican on Wednesday and Wilmington on Saturday.
