Five Notch Double Digits, Evans Posts Career-Best 10 Assists As Men's Basketball Tops Georgian Court

Cougars Jump out to 16-3 lead in wire-to-wire triumph for third win in four tries

CALDWELL, N.J. -- Senior guard Melvin Evans (Bronx, N.Y.) had his second career double-double with 14 points and 10 assists, leading five in double figures as Caldwell men's basketball posted a wire-to-wire 87-64 win over Georgian Court in a CACC matchup at the George R. Newman Center on Saturday afternoon.

In winning its third in the last four outings, Caldwell (8-12, 6-7 CACC) opened fast at 16-3 out of the gate and led by double-digits the rest of the way. Freshman forward Terence Thompson (Rochester, N.Y.)  matched Evans with 14 points and added five rebounds, a block and steal. Junior forward Jaiden Williams (New York) and senior forward DeAngelo Horn (Detroit) had 12 points each and senior guard Kirk Parsons (Newark, N.J.) pitched in a season-best 10.

After the quick start, the Cougars kept the pressure on the Lions (7-13, 4-8), improving an 18-8 lead midway through the first half to 30-8 with 12 straight points, a run that included two straight transition dunks by sophomore guard Jaryn Bull (Bronx, N.Y.) and layups by Evans and Horn as cappers.

The hosts would extend their lead to as many as 31 in the second half before some late Lions baskets closed the gap.

Bull had nine points, junior Emeka Ceaser posted a career-high seven and sophomore guard Tristan Rogers (Brooklyn, N.Y.) contributed five points, three assists and six rebounds.

Caldwell next visits Dominican in an important CACC contest on Tuesday in Orangeburg, N.Y.
