CALDWELL, N.J. - A welcome addition to the Caldwell University volleyball program in 2023 after the sudden closing of nearby Alliance University after her freshman year, California native
Jordan Mack became an instant starter and instant hit with teammates as a sophomore. Last year, she adapted to her third coach in three years, exhibiting team leadership by alternating between setter and hitter as a junior.
Now, alongside fellow senior captain
Wyette Schubert-Brown, Mack is poised for a big senior season and looks to be a steadying influence on a team that has a new influx of talent in Head Coach Héctor Colón's second year at the helm.
She took some time from her busy schedule as a Nursing major and preseason practice for the latest edition of Cougar Captain's Corner.
What is your main goal for your team this season, both on and off the field?
My main goal on the court is to become a cohesive group with all the new talent we've brought in. Off the court, I want to foster a family-like bond with my teammates.Â
What is a team motto or a core value that will drive your team this season?
Two words that are really important to this year's team are growth and development. The memories of last season will be a driving force that pushes us to improve this season.Â
What is the one thing you want fans to know about your team?
I want Caldwell fans to know that they should look forward to seeing a new and much improved Caldwell Volleyball team. We have added a plethora of new talent this season, and after only a few practices, we are already gelling with everyone well.Â
Who is a player on your team that we should be watching out for this season, and whyÂ
I believe that the new players coming in are the people we should be looking out for. They help make this team whole and have brought a great amount of competition to practice.Â
What is one personal goal you're striving for this season?
My personal goal is to lead this team alongside my fellow senior teammate, Wyette Schubert-Brown, and to fully enjoy my senior season.Â
What are you most looking forward to in your first season as a team captain?
As a team captain, I am looking forward to growing with this new team. I also want to make sure my teammates know that I will be there for them whenever they need help or advice.Â
After you graduate, what are you hoping to do next?
After I graduate, I will be taking the National Council Licensure Examination (NCLEX). Once I pass that exam, I will be able to practice as a nurse in an acute care setting.Â
