Caldwell Men’s Basketball’s Ashkenazi, Bueno, Ceaser, Evans Selected for NABC Honors Court Academic Award

Four hoops standouts honored for their achievements in the classroom

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Caldwell University junior Yarden Ashkenazi (Eliat, Israel), senior Derrick Bueno (Palisades Park, N.J), junior Emeka Ceaser (Las Vegas) and junior Melvin Evans (Bronx, N.Y.) have earned recognition on the 2024-25 National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) Honors Court for achievements in the classroom by men's college basketball players, the organization announced today.

For Bueno, it marks the second straight year that he has earned the honor. A Business Administration major with a 3.23 GPA, Bueno also earned CACC Spring Academic Honor Roll, Commissioner's Level.. He was equally successful on the court, averaging 11.9 points and 6.1 rebounds per game for the Cougars. He finished his career with 1,256 points, ninth in school history, and 682 rebounds, good for eighth all-time at CU. He scored a season-best 25 points in the CACC Tournament quarterfinal vs. Jefferson and earned CACC Defensive Player of the Week on Nov. 25.

Ceasar, an English major with a 3.47 GPA, also earned the CACC Spring Academic Honor Roll, Commissioner's Level. The transfer student from SUNY Erie played in two games this season for the Cougars, notching two points against St. Thomas Aquinas. 

Evans, a Sports Management student achieving a 3.26 GPA, also earned the CACC Spring Academic Honor Roll, President's Level. He ranked second in the league in assists (4.2 apg) and third in steals (2.0 spg), while averaging a career-best 10.4 points per game. He was selected CACC Defensive Player of the Week (3/3), and his 136 career steals heading into his senior season are ninth on the school's all-time list.

Ashkenazi, a Financial Economics major with a 3.89 GPA, earned CACC Academic Honor Roll, FAR Award of Distinction Level in the fall (4.0) and President's Level in the spring as well as CACC All-Academic. He appeared in five games during the 2024-25 season, ending his career with 26 games played, 22 points and four rebounds in his three years at Caldwell before graduating in three years.

The NABC Honors Court includes junior, senior, and graduate student men's basketball players who finished the 2024-25 year with a cumulative GPA of 3.2 or higher. Nationally, more than 2,400 players earned spots on the NABC Honors Court.
