Jimmy Kurtz (Buena, N.J.) had a home run in the nightcap, but a late Felician rally gave the host Golden Falcons a 10-8 win in game two of its doubleheader with Caldwell baseball on a cool, windy afternoon at Breslin Field on Sunday. Felician also took the opener, 4-0.
In game one, Caldwell (20-25, 13-21 CACC) was held to three hits, one each by Young, senior 1B
Liam James (Roseland, N.J.) and junior C
Chris Hopf (Middlesex, N.J.). Freshman righthander
Johnny Amato (Roselle Park, N.J.) battled on the mound, pitching six strong innings, allowing six hits and two earned runs to keep the Cougars close.
In game two, Caldwell took a 4-2 lead in the fourth on an RBI triple by sophomore C
Akkash Santiago (Toms River, N.J.) and subsequent wild pitch. The Cougars tacked on a run in the fifth on an RBI single by freshman 3B
Devon Cass (New City, N.Y.) another on a run-scoring hit by senior LF
Liam Lombardi (Stony Point, N.Y.) and two more on Kurtz's second home run of the year.
But the Golden Falcons (32-16, 26-8) rallied for eight runs in the sixth to finish off the four-game sweep.
The Cougars are now tied with Bridgeport for the final playoff spot in the CACC North with two games to play. Bridgeport hosts Holy Family in a doubleheader beginning at noon on Tuesday, while Caldwell entertains Wilmington. Bridgeport holds the tiebreaker advantage, so Caldwell must win one more game than Bridgeport on Tuesday to secure the #4 spot.
