O'Connor Fires Gem, Softball Sweeps Post, Wins Seventh Straight

Tavaska, Oller Rap Four Hits Each, Cougars Move Over .500 for First Time in 2025 with 14th win in last 17

WATERBURY, Conn. -- Caldwell banged out 14 hits in the opener and soph Katie O'Connor (Charlottesville, Va.) pitched a complete game nine-hitter in the nightcap as the Cougars swept a pair of CACC softball contests at Post at LaMoy field on Thursday. The wins stretched the squad's season-long win streak to seven, and pushed the team's mark (14-13 overall, 7-1 CACC) past the .500 mark for the first time this season.

In the opener, the Cougars led, 4-0, entering the bottom of the fifth, on the strength of RBIs by freshman 3B Lindsay Oller (South Plainfield, N.J.), senior SS Ashleigh Tavaska (Jackson, N.J.), soph LF McKenzie Nazionale (Ontario, Calif.) and freshman RF Lexi Weiss (Norristown, Pa.). But the hosts struck back with five runs, all unearned, to lead, 5-4.

Caldwell rallied, immediately putting up a six-spot in the sixth, the key blows a two-run single by senior 2B Grace Vondracek (Odessa, N.Y.) to give CU the lead, and a two-run home run by Tavaska that extended the advantage to 8-5.

Freshman righty Haleigh Fisher (Smyrna, N.Y.) went the first five innings, allowing four hits and no earned runs to earn her fourth straight victory. Soph Katie O'Connor (Charlottesville, Va.) pitched the final two scoreless frames to preserve the victory.

Tavaska and Oller had two hits each to pace the Cougars' 14-hit attack.

In the nightcap, the Cougars again jumped out to a 4-0 edge, plating single runs in the first and second on RBI by Oller and Vondracek, then doubled their lead on a two-run hit by Nazionale. O'Connor was masterful against the Eagles (1-19, 0-4), picking up where she left off at the end of game one by scattering nine hits and walking just one for her team-best sixth win of the year.

The Cougars take a whole day off before visiting Jefferson on Saturday in a CACC doubleheader in Philadelphia before returning home Monday vs. Queens.
