CALDWELL, N.J. -- Sophomore guard
Jah'Nel Lewis (Jersey City, N.J.) and junior forward
Lucy Coogan (Kilkenny, Ireland) both put together huge performances in the regular season finale, as Caldwell women's basketball (16-12, 10-6 CACC) defeated their rival Bloomfield Bears (6-19, 3-13 CACC) 86-82 at the Newman Center. Graduate forward
Sophia DeMauro (New York) was the lone Cougar that was honored on Senior Day.
Lewis scored a career-high 36 points and had five rebounds with four assists. She made a season-high five 3-pointers.
Coogan collected her sixth double-double with 21 points and 16 rebounds.
Caldwell's largest lead was 10 (50-40) at the 9:33 minute mark of the third quarter when sophomore guard
Neysa Aguilar (MIddlesex, N.J.) hit a three-pointer. But the Bears rallied, eventually taking the lead at 56-54 six minutes later. The visitors would take a three-point lead later in the quarter and after numerous lead changes the score was deadlocked at 76 with three minutes to play in the fourth. Two free throws by Lewis and a layup by Coogan put the Cougars up by four before Lewis's three with 0:37 left and three free throws by Lucy in the last 0:21 helped finish off the Bears.
The Cougars will enter their home quarterfinal matchup against the South #3 seed Chestnut Hill College Griffins on a three-game winning streak this Tuesday at 6 PM.
