CALDWELL, N.J. -- Senior forward
Derrick Bueno (Palisades Park, N.J.) scored 19 points and had 11 rebounds to pick up his third double-double, as men's basketball's (16-10, 7-7 CACC) comeback attempt fell short against the North-leading Dominican Chargers (18-7, 13-2 CACC) 77-74 at the Newman Center.
Senior guard
Mark Heber (Paterson, N.J.) scored 15 points and tied his season-high with three 3-pointers made. He made a pair of triples with less than 30 seconds to pull the Cougars to within two.
Caldwell played tough against the first-place Dominican Chargers. They almost erased a 14-point deficit (53-39) at the 11:48 minute of the second half.
The last few minutes were very exciting with CU trimming the double-digit lead to two.
Junior guard
Melvin Evans (Bronx, N.Y.) led Caldwell with six assists and scored 10 points.
Caldwell will host the Wilmington Wildcats in the second game of a doubleheader on Tuesday at 7:30 PM. A win in that game or next Saturday vs. Bloomfield would secure the fourth and final CACC North playoff berth.Â
