ANNAPOLIS, Md. -- Senior wide receiver
Arjun Petgrave (Cranford, N.J.) set school single-game, single-season and career receptions records, hauling in 10 passes for 107 yards in Caldwell's season-ending, 56-14 defeat to Navy in a CSFL South matchup at Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium on Friday Night.
Turnovers doomed the Cougars, as Navy scored 28 points on Caldwell miscues, turning a 14-14 game into a runaway win.
Petgrave's 10 catches broke the single-game mark of nine that he had previously achieved twice and shared with two others. His 46 grabs this year surpass the 43 that Carl Watson had in 2018, and his 80 passed the mark of 76 set by Watson form 2017-19 and 2021.
With his 107 yards receiving today, Petgrave also moved past Watson in career yardage (1085) and his season total of 612 is second all-time to Watson's 677 in 2018.
After ceding a touchdown on an interception return, the Cougars struck back with two touchdowns to take a 14-7 lead. Freshman QB
Cael Zebrowski (Verona, N.J.) found senior WR
Darius Harrison (Plainfield, N.J.) from 23 yards in the final minute of the first quarter, then connected with sophomore WR
Josh Smith (Parsippany, N.J.) from eight yards out, with sophomore kicker
Nic Mallon (Saddle Brook, N.J.) adding both PATs for the one-score lead.
But Navy would bounce right back, taking advantage of a Caldwell fumble deep in its own territory and botched punt into the end zone for two touchdowns and a 21-14 lead. The Midshipmen kept up the pressure in the second half, driving 65 yards in six plays to start the third quarter, then after CU turned it over on downs, went 36 yards in six plays for a 35-14 advantage.
Zebrowski completed 21 of 37 passes for 200 yards and the two scores. In addition to Petgraves 10 catches, Harrison had six, freshman Joe Ciccotelli (Denville, N.J.) had five and Smith four grabs.
Defensively, Caldwell was paced by freshman lineman
Edmond Anderson (Coram, N.Y.), who had eight tackles, including three for loss. Soph LB
Damian Tavares (Pasco, Wash.) and senior lineman
Jorge Gonzalez (North Bergen, N.J.) each had eight tackles as well, and senior DB
Kyle Lewis (Neptune, N.J.) had his second interception.
The Cougars end the season at 4-4, the program's most wins since 2022.
