CALDWELL, N.J. -- Junior midfielder
Darius Holmes (Newark, N.J.) scored on a free kick in the first half and sophomore forward
Hakon Rake (Lommedalen, Norway) tallied a beautiful marker in the second, giving sophomore GK
Jose De Oliveira Curado (Santiago do Cacém, Portugal) all he needed in Caldwell men's soccer's 2-0 shutout win over Felician in a CACC matchup on Wednesday at Caldwell Athletic Field.
The Cougars matched last year's CACC champions kick for kick through the first 30 minutes, before Holmes set up for a free kick just outside the left corner of the box in the 31st minute. His boot went past the keeper, low an just inside the left post for a 1-0 Cougars lead, which they maintained at the intermission.
Then nine minutes into the second half, Rake caught up to a perfect lead pass down the right side from freshman defender
Jonathan Del Cid, who was making his first career start. Rake took one touch then blasted a left-footer into the left corner for his team-best ninth goal of the year to double the Cougars' advantage over the Golden Falcons (8-6-3. 4-5-1 CACC).
Curado earned his first career victory and clean sheet, recording seven saves in his fourth start of the season.
Caldwell (5-9-3, 3-5-2) put together one of its best overall efforts of 2025, outshooting the Golden Falcons, 19-14, in the Cougars' final game of the year.
