CALDWELL, N.J. — Caldwell lit up at the George R. Newman Center on Wednesday night, powering past Queens in a 78-50 victory fueled by a trio of performances.
Senior forward Lucy Coogan (Kilkenny, Ireland) powered the Cougars with a game-leading 26 points, joined by career highs by junior guard Neysa Aguilar (Middlesex, N.J.) (24 points) and sophomore Sofia Maldonado (Jackson Heights, N.Y.) (10).
Caldwell controlled the pace early, using an 11-0 run to end the opening quarter and a Coogan three to build a 36–15 halftime lead. CU (2-1) held firm in the second half, keeping its advantage above 20 for the remainder of the night.
Coogan's all-around performance included seven rebounds, four steals, and three assists, complemented by junior guard Brooke Corbett's (Staten Island, N.Y.) six assists and aggressive defense.
Nkiru Awaka led Queens (0-3) with 17 points and 10 rebounds.
Caldwell is back on its home court Saturday for a 1 p.m. match-up with Molloy University.
