CALDWELL, N.J. -- Today's NJ.com home page features the
first in a sweeping five-part series entitled "Every Single North Jersey Town's Sports Claim To Fame." First up is North Jersey, and if Cougars fans scroll down into the Essex section, to "Caldwell" they'll notice a familiar name.
The publication named Caldwell University assistant vice president and director of athletics
Mark A. Corino and his state collegiate men's basketball record-setting 604th victory as the borough's entry in the list, which seeks to identify that distinction for all 564 New Jersey towns, posting today through Friday.
In all, Corino led the Cougars to 511 wins in 34 seasons from 1988-2022, and combined with the 95 he earned at Bloomfield College from 1983-1987, totaled 606 triumphs. He guided the program to six CACC regular season titles and five tournament titles, earning four trips to the NAIA Tournament and NCAA Tournament berths in 2006-2007 and 2020-21.
In 2018, the university dedicated the playing floor at the George R. Newman Center in honor of Corino for his extensive contributions to the department as the director of athletics and as the head coach of the men's basketball program. Mark A. Corino Court was officially dedicated on December 8, 2018.
From the story:
Caldwell: NJ's college hoops wins leader
In January 2022, Mark Corino did something that he has done more than any coach in New Jersey history. He won a college basketball game. Namely, he coached the Cougars to a victory over Holy Family for his 604th win at Caldwell University — establishing him as the winningest college hoops coach in state history.
