Paladino Nets Five Goals as Men's Lacrosse wins at Felician

Johnson Flips Six Assists, Staudte, Starr Net Three Goals Apiece in CACC Triumph

RUTHERFORD, N.J. -- Senior midfielder Jayden Paladino (Hawthorne, N.J.) scored a game-best five goals as Caldwell men's lacrosse rallied for a 15-13 victory at Felician in a CACC contest at Tryon FIeld.

Trailing, 11-9, midway through the third, Paladino started and finished a string of five straight Cougars markers, with tallies by freshman attackman Owen Tarnowski (Roxbury, N.J.), senior Peter Johnson (Cedar Grove, N.J.) and  soph attackman Gavin Starr (Montgomery, N.Y.) for a 14-11 lead. After Felician (4-9, 1-6 CACC) got back within two with 5:01 left, Starr scored the backbreaker with 4:12 left and the Cougars defense held firm the rest of the way in the win.

Starr and senior attackman Jason Staudte (Sound Beach, N.Y.) finished with three goals each, with Staudte adding two assists, and Johnson had a game high six assists for the Cougars (4-7, 3-4 CACC).

After a 5-3 Feliciana advantage after the first quarter, the teams stayed within two goals of each other until the decisive fourth quarter stretch. Goals by sophomore midfielder Zakkery Glatfelter (New Oxford, Pa.) and Paladino to close the first half put the Cougars up 9-7 at the intermission. Four straight Golden Falcons tallies to start the third gave the hosts the 11-9 lead that the Cougars would erase and take home the road triumph.

Senior GK Shane Murphy (Middletown, N.J.) made 10 saves.

Staudte collected seven ground balls and freshman faceoff specialist Valentine Soltys (Westmont, N.J.) and freshman midfielder James McCarthy (Middletown, N.J.) secured six each.

The Cougars host Post University on Senior Day on Wednesday at Essex Valley Field.
