FLUSHING, N.Y. -- Senior righty
Allison Winters (Blairstown, N.J.) and freshman righty
Katie O'Connor (Charlottesville, Va.) tossed complete game victories, and junior RF
Jessica Klein (Trevose, Pa.) had a hand in both ends of Caldwell Softball's non-league doubleheader sweep of Queens, 4-0 and 3-2 at QC Softball Field on Tuesday.
In game one, Klein had three hits, stealing a base, scoring the first Cougars run and driving in the second, which was all Winters (3-2) would need as she shut out the Knights (7-8) on three hits, fanning four in an efficient 79 pitch effort. Freshman CF Mackenzie Nazionale (Ontario, Calif.), freshman catcher
Taylor Quinn (Colonie, N.Y.) and graduate 3B
Riley Riendeau (Lincoln, R.I.) had two hits each.
In the nightcap, O'Connor (7-2) permitted just six hits and struck out five in the complete game triumph, supported by three more hits by Riendeau and Klein's fourth-inning, two-run tiebreaking single that gave CU a 3-1 lead. Â
The Cougars (14-8) have now won eight of nine, and visit Bridgeport in a key CACC doubleheader on Wednesday.
