CALDWELL, N.J. -- Caldwell women's basketball (1-0) used a big 20 point fourth quarter barrage to pull away from the Pace University Setters (0-1) 78-64 in the Caldwell University Conference Challenge at the Newman Center.
Sophomore guard
Jah'Nel Lewis (Jersey City, N.J.) picked up where she left off last year and scored 23 points on 50% shooting to lead the Cougars attack. Junior guard/forward
Lucy Coogan (Kilkenny, Ireland) dropped 20 points on the night. Caldwell got out to a fast start and built a 44-28 halftime lead. CU played relentless defense and forced 14 turnovers from Pace.
Caldwell did not waver after Pace closed to within six (57-51) in the third quarter. CU got back in rhythm after that point and pulled away from Pace.
The Cougars showed their tough resiliency and held off the Setters' comeback attempt.
FDU-Madison transfer sophomore guard
Neysa Aguilar (Middlesex, N.J.) had a great game in her first action as a Caldwell Cougar, scoring 19 points and two 3's on 50% shooting.
Caldwell will host the Adelphi University Panthers in their second game of the Caldwell University Conference Challenge on Saturday at 12:00 PM.
