Martinez Nets Game Winner as Women's Soccer Wins Fourth Straight, 3-1 at Chestnut Hill

Tally in 64th Minute Followed by Gervais Goal Secures Comeback Win

PHILADELPHIA -- Senior forward Melissa Martinez (Elizabeth, N.J.) put in what proved to be the the game-winning goal in the 64th minute and eight saves by junior GK Ariana Gaminara (Las Vegas) made it stand up as Caldwell women's soccer rallied for a 3-1 CACC triumph over Chestnut Hill (2-8-1, 2-6-0 CACC) at Victory Field for its fourth straight win.

After the hosts scored in the eighth minute for a 1-0 lead, the Cougars (10-3-1, 8-1) got the equalizer less than five minutes later on a penalty kick by freshman midfielder Melissa Pires (Elizabeth, N.J.), who slipped the shot to the left of the keeper to knot the match at 1-1.

The score remained that way through halftime and into the second, when Martinez scored, assisted by freshman defender Ayla Fraser (Passaic, N.J.) for the lead. Then in the 69th minute, junior forward Taina Gervais (Port-Au-Prince, Haiti) scored her league-leading 13th goal for the insurance marker.

Caldwell outshot Chestnut Hill, 16-15, including 11-9 goal, in the closely fought contest.

The Cougars next visit Bridgeport on Tuesday at 6 p.m. before returning home for their final home game of the regular season next Saturday, Nov. 2, vs. Jefferson on Senior Day at Caldwell Athletic Field.

The Cougars have clinched a berth in the CACC Tournament, which begins Nov. 11. They can secure a home game in the first round by finishing first or second in the standings.
