CALDWELL, N.J. -- Senior 2B Courtney Grundhauser (Easton, Pa.) doubled twice, tripled and homeered as second-seeded Caldwell Softball defeated No. 7 Bloomfield, 9-3, completing the suspended game on Wednesday morning at Caldwell Athletic Field on Tuesday. 

Caldwell (35-15) scored three in the top of the first, capped by an RBI single by senior center fielder Emma Cooney (Livingston, N.J.). After Grundhauser led off the third inning with her second double and advanced to third on an error, sophomore SS Ashleigh Tavaska (Jackson, N.J) drove her in with a two-out single to give the hosts a 4-1 lead. An inning later, Grundhauser then launched a twp-out, three-run home run to boost the Cougars' lead to 7-1, which boosted to 8-1 on an RBI triple by freshman 3B Alexa Lee (Blackwood, N.J.). 

The game was suspended for darkness after the fifth, and when it resumed on Wednesday morning, Bloomfield battled back with two in the sixth, but the Cougars tacked on an extra in the bottom of the sixth on Grundhauser's triple followed by a single by senior 1B Maya Rodriguez (Fort Lauderdale, Fla.) made the score 9-3, which would be the final.

Freshman righthander Olivia Kennedy (Chenango Forks, N.Y.) came on in relief to get the last five outs after graduate Kayla Daly (Babylon, N.Y.) went the first 5 1/3 to earn her eighth win.

Caldwell takes on No. 3 and host Georgian Court in the four-team CACC Championship Double Elimination portion at 1:30 p.m. on Thursday. Details and schedules for subsequent games are at CACC Championship Central.
