Grundhauser, Tavaska Rap Three Hits Each as Softball Drops two to Georgian Court

Cougars Clinch No. 2 Seed in CACC Tournament

CALDWELL, N.J. -- Senior 2B Courtney Grundhauser (Easton, Pa.) and soph SS Ashleigh Tavaska (Jackson, N.J) had three hits each as Caldwell softball (31-13, 19-5 CACC) dropped a doublehader vs. Georgian Court (32-16, 16-6) at Caldwell Athletic Field, 7-0 and 10-5.

Grundhauser had two hits in the opener and one in the nightcap while Tavaska doubled in game one and two singles in game two.

In game two, the Cougars rallied with a four-run third inning on an RBI single by Tavaska, sacrifice fly by freshman 3B Alexa Lee (Blackwood, N.J.) and two-run single by freshman catcher Delaney Ridgell (Mt. Airy, Md.) to pull to within 6-4, and after GCU scored in the top of the sixth, got back within two on an RBI single by senior 1B Maya Rodriguez (Fort Lauderdale, Fla.).

Senior righty Mariah Culver (Owego, N.Y.) allowed two earned runs in going the distance in game one.

The Cougars, who have clinched the No. 2 seed in the CACC Tournament and will host a quarterfinal matchup on Saturday against the to-be-determined No. 7 seed, have non-league doubleheaders with Queens (Wednesday, 2:30 p.m.) and Bentley (Friday, 1:30 p.m.) in between.
