CALDWELL, N.J. -- Junior righthander
Trent Williams (Glen Burnie, Md.) pitched 6 1/3 innings of scoreless relief and graduate third baseman
Waldy Arias (Plainfield, N.J.) hit a walk-off solo home run in the bottom of the ninth, propelling the Cougars to an 8-7 victory over Bridgeport in the opener of a CACC doubleheader at Kiwanis Oval. Arias hit another homer in game two as part of a 6-for-6 day as the Cougars took the nightcap, 17-8.
In game one, Williams entered in the third inning with the Cougars trailing, 7-4, stranding a runner on second. Only one runner would reach third against the righthander the rest of the way, giving the Cougars offense a chance to go to work. A two-run home run by freshman second baseman
Malik Little (Bergenfield, N.J.) in the fourth pulled the hosts to within 7-6, and Arias's run-scoring double in the sixth tied it. Arias then capped a 5-for-5 game by depositing his second home run of the season over the 370 foot sign in left center field for the win.
Little was 2-for-3 with three runs scored and three RBI and freshman CF
Joshua Lopez (New City, N.Y.) had a three-run home run in the second inning for Caldwell (11-21, 5-12 CACC).
In game two, it was more of the same for the Cougars offense as Arias's first-inning two run home run preceded a pair of five run outbursts as the Cougars batted around in the second and third innings for a 12-2 lead after three. Soph LF
