MIAMI SHORES, Fla. --
Delaney Ridgell (Mt. Airy, Md.) plated
Emma Cooney (Livingston, N.J.) with the only run of the game as the Caldwell softball team won the first game of a doubleheader at Barry at Buccaneer Softball Field, 1-0 in nine innings. The hosts took the nightcap, 2-1.
In the opener, Ridgell's liner to left drove in the eventual winning run, supporting the six-hit pitching of
Madison Burns (East Greenbush, N.Y), who tossed eight innings, and
Kayla Daly (Babylon, N.Y.), who fired a 1-2-3 ninth for her first save.Â
In the nightcap, the Cougars scored their only run in the fifth when
Chloe Pocceschi (Annandale, N.J.) drove a single to right, scoring
Paris Balilonis (Philadelphia). Four Caldwell pitchers limited the Buccaneers (19-14) to five hits while fanning six.
Jessica Klein (Trevose, Pa.) had two hits for the Cougars (2-6), who will play Kutztown and Nova Southeastern on Thursday to close their Florida swing before returning to the Garden State to play their CACC opener at Bloomfield Sunday.
