Akkash Santiago (Toms River, N.J.) each tallied RBIs as Caldwell baseball fell in two contests on its Florida spring trip, 4-1 to Bentley and 17-3 to St. Cloud (Minn.) State.
Against Bentley (6-5),
Trent Williams (Glen Burnie, Md.) tossed five solid innings, permitting just one earned run and four hits.
Jerry Gamone (Union, N.J.) finished up with three frames of three-hit, one-run relief. Lombardi's sacrifice fly in the sixth inning scored
Ryan Opak (Douglaston, N.Y.) with the Cougars' only run. Opak,
Waldy Arias (Plainfield, N.J.),
Zach Saunders (Adelphi, Md.),
Kyle Richards (Sayreville, N.J.) and
Michael Cruz (Miami) had hits for Caldwell.
In the day's second game, Santiago's second-inning double accounted for two of the Cougars' runs, driving in
Joshua Lopez (Nanuet, N.Y.) while another run scored on an error.
Nikko Matos (Roselle Park, N.J.) tossed three innings of relief and
Michael Deusch (Oceanport, N.Y.) hurled a scoreless frame for CU.
The Cougars continue their swing through the Sunshine State with a game vs. American International in West Palm Beach on Friday.
