BRIDGEPORT, Conn.- Caldwell University men's basketball sophomore
Jarnel Rancy (Middle Island, N.Y.) recorded 10 blocks, breaking the career blocks records as the Cougars won their eighth in a row with a 78-71 win over the University of Bridgeport in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference contest.
The Cougars improve to 16-7 overall and 12-2 in the CACC, while the Purple Knights fall to 10-13 and 6-9 in conference play.
Bridgeport led for most of the opening half, holding a 29-25 lead with under four minutes to play. The Cougars rallied back, scoring the final eight points of the half to lead 33-29 at the break. Freshman
Darnell Evans (Deer Park, N.Y.) tied the game at 29 with a pair of free throws at the 2:26 mark and capped the run with a lay-up with 1:22 to play to give the Cougars a four-point lead.
The Purple Knights closed the gap to 37-36 early in the second half. The Cougars answered with a 13-6 run as Evans converted a three-point play at the 10:43 mark to put Caldwell ahead 50-42. Bridgeport battled back to cut the score to 57-55 with 7:17 remaining in the game.

Derrick Bueno (Palisades Park, N.J.) scored seven points including a three-point play in the run. Evans capped the run with a lay-up at the 2:09 mark to give the Cougars 68-57 lead. Caldwell outpaced Bridgeport over the final two minutes to secure their eighth straight win.
Evan recorded a double-double with 28 points and 10 rebounds along with five assists and three blocks. Bueno added 17 points, four boards and three steals, while Rancy posted eight rebounds.
Rancy recorded 10 blocks, setting his single game career-best, tying the CACC single game record and setting the program career blocks record surpassing Sulaiman Muhammad's (1999-2003) previous mark of 191.
The Cougars host Thomas Jefferson University in a CACC contest on Saturday, February 11 at 3 pm.
