Evans Nets 19 Points as Men’s Basketball Outlasts Post for Tenth Straight Win

CALDWELL, N.J.- Caldwell University men's basketball freshman Darnell Evans (Deer Park, N.Y.) dropped in 19 points as the Cougars' win streak hit 10 games in a 64-59 victory over Post University in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference contest.
 
The Cougars improve to 18-7 overall and 14-2 in the CACC, while the Eagles fall to 14-11 and 9-7 in conference play.
 
With the win, Caldwell clinches a home game in the conference quarterfinals for the first time since the 2007-08 season.
 
The Cougars raced out to a 23-12 lead midway through the opening half. Freshman Kirk Parsons (Newark, N.J.) drained a pair of three-pointers to help Caldwell take an early lead. Post trimmed the score to nine points but the Cougars extended their lead to close out the half. Sophomore Mark Heber (Paterson, N.J.) drained a triple, while Evans converted a three-point play to help Caldwell build a 40-27 lead at halftime.
 
Sophomore Jarnel Rancy (Middle Island, N.Y.) drained a triple on their opening possession as the Cougars extended their lead to as much as 53-32 with 11:36 left in the game. The Eagles rallied back, closing to within six points at 58-52 with 6:03 to play. Evans connected on a jumper to slow the rally but Post continue to chip away down the stretch.
 
The Eagles got as close as three points at 62-59 with 1:21 remaining in the game. Parsons answered with a jumper to push the score back to five points. Post attempted a trio of shots behind the arc in the final 30 seconds but all failed to connect as the Cougars held on for their tenth win in a row.
 
Evans led the way with 19 points, seven rebounds, five assists and three steals in the win. Parsons finished with 10 points, five boards and three assists, while Rancy added nine points, 10 rebounds and five blocks.
 
The Cougars travel to Alliance University in a CACC contest on Saturday, February 18 at 3 pm.
