Darnell Evans (Deer Park, N.Y.) had a game-high 26 points and junior forward
Derrick Bueno (Palisades Park, N.J.) added 20 and a game-high 10 rebounds as Caldwell Men's Basketball fell, 81-78, in overtime to Assumption at the Newman Center on Tuesday afternoon.
The Cougars led by as many as 17 with just under 6:00 left in the first half, an Evans layup capping a 14-5 run for a 40-23 advantage. But AU (6-5) cut its deficit to five by halftime, and took the lead for the first time at 68-67 with 3:16 left. Â A tip in by Bueno and layup by soph guard
Melvin Evans (Bronx, N.Y.) put CU up by three but a late trey tied it at 71 as a final effort at the buzzer by the Cougars (4-6) failed.
In OT, the Cougars took the early lead but an 8-2 finish gave the Greyhounds the win.
The game marked the second straight double-double for Bueno and fourth of the season.
Melvin Evans added 10 points and three steals for CU, which also got five steals and three assists from
Darnell Evans.
The Cougars break for the Christmas holiday, returning to action at CACC foe Bridgeport on Dec. 30.
