Drake TD Highlights Season Finale Sprint Football Loss To Army West Point On Senior Day

DeMaio Throws for 133 yards, TD, Mitchell Catches Four for 72 yards

CALDWELL, N.J. -- It was Senior Day for the Cougars sprint football team at Bonnel Field today, and though they came out on the short end of a 35-7 verdict against an undefeated Army West Point team (6-0, 3-0 CSFL North) heading to the CSFL Championship next week, the Cougars honored 13 players who have meant so much to the growth of the program that has made great strides in just a few years in the league.

Today, Senior QB Frank DeMaio was sent scrambling by an aggressive Army defense, but he managed 12 completions for 133 yards, including a four-yard TD strike to junior TE Angelo Drake on a fourth down pass that pulled the Cougars (2-4, 1-2 CACC North) to within 14-7 in the second quarter. But Army West Point scored just before the end of the half to lead, 21-7, at the intermission and added one score each in the final two quarters for the final margin.

Senior Zaheir Mitchell (Wallington, N.J.) had a big day in his last game in Red and Gold, leading the Cougars with four catches for 72 yards. Classmate Jeremy Colon (Union City, N.J.) had three catches for 44 yards and soph Donovan Swasey (Clifton, N.J.) had two catches for 21 yards.

Defensively, junior Amajuan Murray (Rahway, N.J.) led the Cougars with 10 tackles (eight solo), a sack, pass break up and blocked field goal. Junior Michael Bonsu (Atlanta) had nie tackles and freshman Adam Brash (Bayonne, N.J.) made six stops.

In addition to Colon, MItchell and DeMaio, the Cougars seniors celebrated today include:
