Sarah Costanza (Morris Plains, N.J.) scored on a penalty in the 75th minute for the game-winner as Caldwell Women's Soccer topped Bridgeport, 2-1, in a CACC match at Caldwell Athletic Field on Wednesday. Costanza also assisted on the Cougars' first goal, lofting a long ball down to Junior forward
Melissa Martinez (Elizabeth, N.J.) who beat the keeper in the 56th minute.
The win moves the Cougars (6-3-5 overall, 4-1-5 CACC) into a tie for second place in the CACC standings with 17 points.
Costanza buried the PK in the left corner after a fine individual play by senior
Mariana Ferreira (Union, N.J.), who beat the defender from UB (6-6-3, 4-4-1 CACC) down the left side, lofted a pass across the box to Martinez, who beat the keeper to the ball then was tackled for the penalty.
Sophomore GK
Ariana Gaminara (Las Vegas, Nev.) was stellar in goal, stopping 10 shots, her highest total of the season, lowering her GAA to 1.02 for the season, fourth best in the CACC and raising her save percentage to .841, second in the league.
The Cougars finish the regular season on Saturday at Goldey Beacom at noon. The CACC Tournament quarterfinals are Sunday, Nov. 5, at the site of the higher seed, still TBD.
