LAKEWOOD, N.J. — Freshman midfielder Gisle Myrle (Oppdal, Norway) lifted a shot from the top of the box into the upper left of the goal in the 85th minute, breaking a 1-1 deadlock and giving Caldwell men's soccer a scintillating, 2-1 CACC victory over Georgian Court at Investors Bank Field on Saturday between the raindrops.
On the winning play, senior forward Israel Dos Santos Neto (Salvador Bahia, Brazil) crossed from just outside the left side of the box, and when the ball deflected towards Myrle, he one-timed it past the outstretched keeper and just below the crossbar for his third goal of the week.
The Lions (4-6-2, 3-3-1 CACC) had two more attempts at goal, including a corner kick in the final moments but could not get one past sophomore junior GK Kevin Sabadin (Mantena, Brazil), who recorded five saves in the match.
Neto got the Cougars (8-2-1, 4-2-1 CACC) on the board first in the 65th minute, taking a feed from across the field from sophomore MF Ingebrigt Braenden (Trondheim, Norway), making a great move one-on-one past the defender on the left side and grounding it into the right side of the goal for the 1-0 CU lead.
GCU would tie it six minutes later, before Myrle and Neto combined on the game winner.
Caldwell next visits CACC leader Post (8-0) in a matchup of two of the top three teams in the CACC standings on Tuesday at 2:30 in Waterbury, Conn.
