Caldwell University Athletics To Celebrate 50 Years of Title IX on February 25th

CALDWELL, N.J.- Caldwell University Athletics will celebrate 50 years of Title IX as it will recognize the women student-athletes along with administrators, coaches, contributors and pioneers that blazed the trail for supporting women's athletics at Caldwell.

On June 23, 1972, Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972 was enacted by Congress and signed into law, which prohibited sex discrimination in any educational program or activity receiving any type of federal financial aid. In honor of the 50th anniversary of Title IX, Caldwell Athletics will recognize its top-50 women's student-athletes over the last 50 years along with current and current and former trailblazers who have championed and advanced women's athletics at Caldwell.

"I am thrilled to support the 50th anniversary of Title IX and Caldwell's role in ensuring access, equality and inclusivity in educational programs and in athletics," said Caldwell President Matthew Whelan. "While we are now a co-ed institution, our tradition of serving women and ensuring equal opportunities remains strong. We are proud that we have just launched the first Division II Acrobatics and Tumbling team in New Jersey. Caldwell is proud to continue our mission and tradition of leadership in ensuring equal access to top tier academic and athletic programs."

The event will take place as part of Caldwell Athletics' Super Saturday Alumni event on Saturday, February 25 as part of the Cougars women's and men's basketball doubleheader against Bloomfield College. The women's game vs the Bears will tip-off at 1 pm. Immediately following the conclusion of the women's game, the Title IX Honor Roll Ceremony will take place to recognize the impact of women in athletics. Following the ceremony, the men's game will tip-off at approximately 4 pm.

"I'm so excited to be given the opportunity to plan such a great event to celebrate the 50th Anniversary of Title IX," said Assistant Athletic Director/Head Athletic Trainer/Senior Woman Administrator Heather Arabitg. "From planning the panel discussion for February 24th to researching all of the incredible women we will recognize on February 25th, it has been an honor.  I truly believe that empowered women, empower women and our successes have come from the work of those before us."
