CALDWELL, N.J.- Caldwell University men's soccer senior
Andre Vieira (Union, N.J.) netted the lone goal for the home team as the Cougars fell to Saint Anselm College 2-1 in their home opener.
The Cougars fall to 0-4-0, while the Hawks improve to 1-0-0.
The teams battled through a competitive first half before Saint Anselm broke through in the final two minutes. The Hawks converted a penalty kick in the 44th minute to take a 1-0 lead at halftime.
Saint Anselm added to their lead as they scored their second goal of the game in the 65th minute to take a 2-0 lead.
The Cougars got on the board in the 85th minute as Vieira scored a goal off an assist by junior
Alex Spencer (St. Andrew, Jamaica) to pull the home squad to within a goal at 2-1.
The match was balanced on stats as shots were even at 13 as well as shots on goals at 7-7. Caldwell held the edge in corner kicks at 4-3.
Sophomore
Dylan Valencia (Elizabeth, N.J.) posted five saves in 90 minutes in net.
The Cougars open conference play as they travel to Wilmington University on Sunday, September 11 for a 2:30 pm start time.
