PHILIPPI, W.V.- The Caldwell University sprint football team improved to 2-0 for a second consecutive season as the Cougars defeated Alderson Broaddus University 27-3 in a Collegiate Sprint Football League contest.

The Cougars improve to 2-0, while the Battlers fall to 0-2.

Caldwell got on the board first as sophomore
Michael Casalino (Clark, N.J.) booted a 27-yard field goal for a 3-0 lead late in the opening quarter. Alderson Broaddus pulled even early in the second quarter with a 35-yard field goal to even the score at 3-3.

The Cougars mounted a scoring drive late in the half. Senior
Frank DeMaio (Nutley, N.J.) tossed a 21-yard touchdown pass to sophomore
Akhi Barksdale (Brick, N.J.) to give Caldwell a 10-3 halftime lead.

The Caldwell defense came up with a pivotal play as sophomore
Ethan Edwards (Edison, N.J.) picked off a Battler pass and returned it 68 yards for a touchdown.

DeMaio added another touchdown in the fourth quarter as he connected with sophomore
Angelo Drake (Manville, N.J.) for a six-yard scoring play. Casalino added his second field goal of the game as he kicked a 37-yard field goal late in the game to cap the scoring.

DeMaio finished with 69 yards passing with two scores in the air, while adding 12 yards rushing. Freshman
Devon Turner (Bergenfield, N.J.) led the Cougar rushing attack with 15 carries for 50 yards. Barksdale hauled in two passes for 25 yards and one score.

Sophomore
Amajuwan Murray (Rahway, N.J.) recorded four tackles, while senior
Michael Lohrmann (Hasbrouck Height, N.J.) added four tackles and 2.5 sacks.

The Cougars return to action as they host the United States Naval Academy for a cross-division game on Saturday, October 1 at 6:30 pm at James Caldwell High School.
