Men’s Soccer Nets Late Goal to Surge Past Georgian Court

CALDWELL, N.J.- The Caldwell University men's soccer team netted a late goal to surge past Georgian Court University 3-2 in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference contest.
 
The Cougars post their first win of the season to improve to 1-5-1 and 1-1-1 in the CACC, while the Lions fall to 2-5-0 and 1-2-0 in conference play.
 
The Lions jumped put to an early lead with a goal in the 20th minute of play. Caldwell rallied back with a pair of goals to take a lead into halftime.
 
Senior Andre Vieira (Union, N.J.) scored in the front the net off a cross from sophomore Joel Genao (Union, N.J.) in the 33rd minute. Caldwell took the lead in the 40th minute as senior Maicol Diaz (Rio Negro, Uruguay) put the Cougars in the lead with a goal off a free kick.
 
Georgian Court pulled even in the 62nd minute with a goal to tie the game at 2-2. Caldwell scored the game-winning goal in the 82nd minute of play and held on down the stretch to earn their first win of the season.
 
For head coach Evan Marques the win marks his first collegiate coaching victory.
 
Sophomore Dylan Valencia (Elizabeth, N.J.) earned the win in net, recording seven saves,    
 
The Cougars host the College of Staten Island in a non-conference tilt on Wednesday, September 21 at 3:30 pm.
