CALDWELL, N.J.- Caldwell University men's basketball freshman
Darnell Evans (Deer Park, N.Y.) netted a career-high 31 points as the Cougars won their sixth consecutive game with a 91-72 win over Felician University in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference contest.
The Cougars improve to 6-3 overall and 2-0 in the CACC, while the Golden Falcons falls to 3-5 and 0-2 in conference play.
Felician raced out to a 12-2 lead over the first five minutes of the game. The Cougars flipped the script with a 22-4 rally, led by 12 points from Evans. Sophomore
Mark Heber (Paterson, N.J.) capped the run with a pair of free throws at the 6:21 mark to give Caldwell a 24-17 lead.
The Golden Falcons closed the gap to one point but Caldwell pushed back to hold a halftime lead.
Caldwell broke the game open to start the second half as the Cougars opened the half with a 14-2 run. Heber drained a three-pointer to start the run, while Evans added five points. Evans connected on a triple at the 14:58 mark to cap the run and give the Cougars a 52-37 lead. Caldwell maintained a double-digit lead down to the final buzzer.
Evans paced the Cougars offense with a career-high 31 points, shooting 10-for-15 from the field, 2-for-4 from downtown and 9-for-11 from the free throw line. He chipped in four boards and two steals. Sophomore
Derrick Bueno (Palisades Park, N.J.) recorded a double-double with 18 points and 10 rebounds, along with three steals. Heber finished with 12 points, four boards and two steals, while sophomore
Jarnel Rancy (Middle Island, N.Y.) added eight rebounds and six blocks.
The Cougars host Franklin Pierce University in a non-conference contest on Saturday, December 10 at 1 pm.
