CALDWELL, N.J.- Caldwell University men's basketball sophomore
Mark Heber (Paterson, N.J.) recorded a double-double as the Cougars emerged victorious 91-74 against Mercy College in their home opener.
The Cougars even their record at 3-3, while the Mavericks drop to 1-4.
Caldwell pulled away late in the first half paced by 12 points from freshman
Darnell Evans (Deer Park, N.Y.). Evans scored in the paint in the final seconds to give the Cougars a 39-24 halftime advantage.
The Cougars maintained a double-digit advantage into the second half as Heber drained a pair from downtown over the final 20 minutes of the game.
Heber paced the Cougars with his first double-double of the season, finishing with 20 points and 11 rebounds along with three assists. Evans tallied 19 points, five boards, and five assists. Sophomore
Derrick Bueno (Palisades Park, N.J.) added 13 points and four rebounds, while sophomore
Jarnel Rancy (Middle Island, N.Y.) recorded nine points, four boards, three assists and three steals.
The Cougars host The Lincoln University in a non-conference contest on Wednesday, November 30 at 7 pm.
