JERSEY CITY, N.J.- Caldwell University men's soccer sophomore
Torain Young (Newark, N.J.) netted the lone goal for the visitors as the Cougars fell short to Alliance University 2-1 in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference contest. The Cougars punched their ticket to the conference tournament as the #8 seed in next week's CACC Championship.
The Cougars fall to 5-9-3 overall and 4-5-3 in the CACC, while Alliance improves to 6-7-4 and 6-3-3 in conference play.
The team battled through a scoreless first half with Alliance holding a 16-6 shot advantage over the first 45 minutes of play.
The scoring picked up in the second half as Alliance struck first with a goal in the 48th minute of play.
Caldwell answered in the 56th minute as Young found the back of the net off an assist from senior
Murilo DeOliveira (São Paulo, Brazil) to even the game at 1-1.
Alliance pushed ahead with a goal off a penalty kick in the 62nd minute and held off the Cougars down the stretch.
Alliance held the shot advantage 31-12 and shots on goal 13-2. Alliance edged the Cougars in corner kicks 8-5.
Junior
Jalen Folsom (Beachwood, N.J.) played all 90 minutes in net, recording 10 saves in the game.
The #8 seeded Cougars travel to the top seed Post University in the Quarterfinals of the 2022 CACC Men's Soccer Championship on Tuesday, November 1 at 1 pm.
