Swasey Totals Three Touchdowns in Sprint Football Victory against Chestnut Hill

CONSHOHOCKEN, Pa.- Caldwell University sprint football freshman Donovan Swasey (Clifton, N.J.) found the end zone three times as the Cougars defeated Chestnut Hill College 28-6 in a Collegiate Sprint Football League contest.
 
The Cougars up their mark to 3-1 on the season, while the Griffins fall to 0-4.  
 
Caldwell jumped out to a first half lead as the graduate Anthony Guarino (Tinton Falls, N.J.) intercepted a Griffin pass to set up the Cougar defense deep in enemy territory. Two plays later, Swasey scored on the ground from nine yards out to give the Cougars a 7-0 lead.
 
The Cougar defense came up with another turnover midway through the second quarter as sophomore Gennaro Longobardi (Nutley, N.J.) intercepted a pass near midfield, giving the offense prime striking position. Senior quarterback Frank DeMaio (Nutley, N.J.) connected with junior Jared Montoya (Union City, N.J.) for four yards on a key third-and-three conversion. Three plays later, Swasey rushed into the end zone from 39-yards out to extend Caldwell's lead to 14-0.
 
Caldwell added to their lead in the third quarter as DeMaio led the Cougars on a scoring drive on their first offensive possession of the second half. DeMaio capped a 7-play, 47-yard drive with a 25-yard touchdown connection with Swasey, for this third trip to the end zone in the game.
 
Chestnut Hill got on the board with a touchdown midway through the fourth quarter to cut the score to 21-6.
 
The Cougars found the end zone once more in the game DeMaio again led Caldwell on a long scoring drive. Swasey rushed for 13 yards to convert a third-and-five play to keep the drive alive. DeMaio capped the 8-play, 75-yard drive with a 16-yard connection to junior Nadir Orsini (Jersey City, N.J.) to close out the scoring in the game.
 
Swasey turned in a career day, combining for over 100 total yards of offense in the win. He rushed seven times for 84 yards and two scores, while adding two receptions for 33 yards and one score. DeMaio tossed for 168 yards in the air on 13-of-18 passing and two touchdowns. Freshman Devon Turner (Bergenfield, N.J.) finished with 45 yards on the ground, while Orsini led the aerial attack with three catches for 49 yards and a touchdown.
 
Senior Ernesto Hernandez (Union, N.J.) led the Cougar defense with seven tackles, while senior Jahmall Readus (Paterson, N.J.) added seven tackles and one pass defense. Senior Michael Lohrmann (Hasbrouck Heights, N.J.) totaled six tackles while junior Messiah Porter (Rutherford, N.J.) tallied four tackles with 2.5 for losses and one sack.
 
The Cougars travel to St. Thomas Aquinas College for a North Division contest on Friday, October 21 at 7 pm.
